🍎 Mountain Day!!! (and other cool things)
Happy Friday!
Here are some things I found interesting, inspiring and just plain cool this week…
Y’all, it’s coming… One of my FAVORITE holidays of all time:
⛰️ MOUNTAIN DAY!!!
When I was at Smith College, we celebrated Mountain Day - a day dedicated to all things fall! 🍂
On the most picturesque fall day, the president would ring the college bells and classes would be canceled. Students were supposed to take the opportunity to hike, go apple picking, have a picnic, wear flannel, and do other fall activities.
A surprise holiday! 🥳
For me, fall is a difficult time of the year.
The days are getting shorter, everything is cold, and my allergies are acting up… (Where, oh where, are my 🌸beautiful spring days?)
This tradition became one of the things that I actually look forward to with the changing of the seasons. 🍁
Although truthfully, I can get on board with any holiday that involves lots of food, especially 🍎 apple baked goods.
This Thursday, per my decree (and the alignment with Rosh Hashanah), I am taking the day off work and celebrating with my family.
We plan to go hiking/walking, maybe bake some apple pie-lets, and of course, drink lots of cider! ⛰️🍎👻
How do you like to welcome in autumn?
Unpopular opinion (don’t hate me):
🍎🍩 Apple cider donuts are overrated…
As you probably know, I grew up in Colorado. So I was first exposed to the ideas of apple cider donuts through pop culture.
Donuts? Scrumptious. Apple cider? Delicious. But put them together?!? Well that should be *pure magic*.
But it’s just a cinnamon-y donut.
Maybe I’ve had poor quality ones, but … meh. Anyhoo, this week, I’ve been curious about the apple cider donut’s history and whether I should try making them at home instead. Do you have a recipe you’d recommend?
🎃 ☕️ Hold on to your mug, ‘tis the season of pumpkin spice!!!
TBH, I’m not a huge fan of pickles, and… well, this flavor wouldn’t do much to change my mind!
🍽️ The Life of a Renowned Food Critic
Moving away from fall, I was FASCINATED by this interview with Peter Wells, a NY Times food critic.
I’m perpetually tickled by the dance between restaurants and critics as they balance anonymity and special treatment.
And for some reason, watching teeny tiny food being made is just hitting the spot right now… Enjoy!
